There are thirteen paintings in VOL I. All of which were created around the same time. On the surface, many of the black areas are poor quality oil paints, which causes them to crack and change much sooner. The vast negative spaces of gesso on the wood is a few layers deep with cracks and thin seperations as well. But the major shapes and focus points are very clear and certain, while their insides may not be. I find it really important that the viewer takes time with each piece, they need a bit of meditation. I decided to put up Dj Fela's Niggaz Don't Die mix-tape because it's like an older brother to my work. There's definitely an unexplainable connection for me with the pieces and that music. I mean that. If one would like to explore this volume further, it would be cool to grab a book or come to the weekend preview. All of the paintings in this volume are acquirable. Everything was done by hand without the use of projection or pre-made stencils. My few influences are primitive nature, distortion, the south, extreme order, and low release.
